  62.    What's Queensryche?
  63.           Queensryche is a five-member band from the Seattle, Washington
  64.           area. Queensryche's music is commonly called "progressive
  65.           metal," and blends the sounds of progressive rock bands like
  66.           Pink Floyd and Yes with the sounds of heavy-metal bands such as
  67.           Iron Maiden and Dio.
  68.           
  69.    What's new with Queensryche?
  70.           The band spent most of late 1993 and early 1994 in a log cabin
  71.           in northwest Washington, preparing their new album.
  72.           
  73.           That album, Promised Land, was released throughout Europe
  74.           between October 8th and 10th, 1994, and in the US on October
  75.           18th. Full of brooding, introspective lyrics and experimental
  76.           instrumentation, it may be Queensryche's most progressive
  77.           release to date.

  79.           In late 1994, a video, The Making of The Promised Land, will
  80.           reportedly be released, documenting the creation of the album.
  81.           In February of 1995, a CD-ROM for personal computers,
  82.           containing biographical information about the band, along with
  83.           multimedia material and interactive virtual worlds, will be
  84.           released. A world tour will also begin in late 1994 or early
  85.           1995.

  92.    How did Queensryche begin?
  93.           The five members of Queensryche, all from the Seattle area,
  94.           were involved in local bands before coming together under the
  95.           name The Mob and recording a 4-song EP, which became the
  96.           Queensryche EP. The members are, in order of birth:
  97.           Jan 14, 1959 : Geoff Tate, Vocals
  98.           Jan 29, 1960 : Eddie Jackson, Bass
  99.           Feb 23, 1962 : Michael Wilton, Guitar
  100.           Jun 14, 1963 : Chris DeGarmo, Guitar

  103.           After the band's first managers suggested that a better name be
  104.           found, the band chose Queensreich, taken from the title of one
  105.           of the songs on their EP, Queen of the Reich, but altered the
  106.           spelling to Queensryche to avoid being mistaken for nazi
  107.           sympathizers. Scott Rockenfield's brother, Todd designed a
  108.           symbol, now known as the tri-ryche.

  111.           Since 1983, Queensryche have released an EP, 5 full-length
  112.           studio albums, one studio videotape, two live videotapes, a
  113.           live album and video boxed set, a limited-edition boxed set,

  129.    What Queensryche tours have there been?
  130.           Typically, each Queensryche release has been followed by a tour
  131.           of some scale. Most recently, the Building Empires tour, in
  132.           support of Empire, featured a complete live presentation of
  133.           Operation: Mindcrime, along with songs from all Queensryche's
  134.           other albums. Opening bands included Suicidal Tendencies and
  135.           Warrior Soul.

  142.    Who is Michael Kamen?
  143.           Michael Kamen is a composer known for his work on movie
  144.           soundtracks. Although his involvement with Queensryche is not
  145.           as well known, it is extensive. He arranged the orchestration
  146.           for The Warning, Operation: Mindcrime, Silent Lucidity and
  147.           Operation: Livecrime. He also co-wrote with Queensryche the
  148.           song Real World, which can be found on the soundtrack of the
  149.           movie Last Action Hero.

  161.    Who were the Moronic Monks of Morin Heights?
  162.           An anonymous choral group (really the staff of Le Studio in
  163.           Canada), the Moronic Monks provided the chorus vocals used on
  164.           Operation: Mindcrime and Operation: Livecrime. Their work is
  165.           especially prominent in the song Suite Sister Mary.

  167.    Who is Metal Sushi?
  168.           Metal Sushi is a female close to the band. Her real identity is
  169.           known to only a few, who guard it carefully. For many years,
  170.           she was the head of the Queensryche Campaign, and editor of
  171.           'Ryche & Roll Times, the Campaign's quarterly newsletter. In
  172.           early 1994, she turned over that position to a new editor,
  173.           Tina, whose real identity is also unknown.

  209.           presently reaches over 1,600 subscribers worldwide every week.

  212.           whether you want the complete digest containing both news and
  213.           discussion, or only news.

  224.    How can I contact the Queensryche Archives?
  225.           The Queensryche Campaign's archivist, Joyce Filmer, has
  226.           assembled Operation: Archyves, a fifty-page booklet covering
  227.           all of Queensryche's official releases, interviews, reviews,
  228.           television appearances, magazine articles, ad infinitum. The
  229.           only two exceptions are information on past tour dates and

  239.    How can I use the on-line archives?
  240.           The primary online archives for back-issues of Screaming in
  241.           Digital and all manner of other data about Queensryche are
  242.           accessible via FTP (the File Transfer Protocol used on
  243.           Internet) on the machine Arginine.UMDNJ.Edu (130.219.44.141),
  244.           in the directory /pub/queensryche. A 'mirror' of this archive
  245.           is included in Dave Datta's Music FTP Site, on ftp.uwp.edu, in
  246.           the directory /pub/music/lists/q/queensryche. These archives
  247.           include lyrics, discographical information, transcriptions of
  248.           articles and interviews, digital soundbites and images, and

  252.           Nick Kramer at Carnegie Mellon University (cmu.edu) has created
  253.           a Queensryche Home Page on the WorldWide Web. It includes much
  254.           of the information, images and digitized sound samples found on
  255.           the FTP site, and is far more visually appealing than this
  256.           page!

  258.    What other bands might Queensryche fans like?
  259.           Queensryche fans have very diverse tastes, but almost all of us
  260.           like at least one or two other bands in the categories known as
  261.           progressive rock and progressive metal. Here is a list of many
  262.           such bands. You have probably heard of at least some of them,
  263.           but there are probably also some you have not encountered. Some
  264.           of these bands also have their own digests, Usenet newsgroups
  265.           or mailing lists, and participation in these forums is
  266.           certainly encouraged. Some even have their own WorldWide Web
